When My Age Comes Calling

Does your body remind you of your age? Does it often lead you to think you’re older than the calendar says you are? Yeah, me too. I was cooking some side dishes for Thanksgiving and one of the tasks was peeling sweet potatoes (how have I lived 62 years and not know that it’s easier to peel them when you cook them first). Now my thumb doesn’t work.

Sometimes it’s a thumb, once in a while a whole hand but it’s really annoying when it’s my brain. I blame my forgetfulness on being so smart that I’m running out of room to store all that knowledge in and random thoughts just slip out as I’m trying to retrieve them. Hey, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Usually when body parts stop working it only lasts a few days and I can work through it. I’d like to give myself a rest once in a while but living alone if I don’t do it then it doesn’t get done but I do modify HOW I do things. I hold a pen differently when I have to write, I wear a thumb splint at night and I’ll eat sandwiches rather than cooking.

What are some of your tricks to get through painful reminders?
